Just The Total
Last updated: September 6, 2026
The short version. Just The Total estimates what your shopping will cost. Estimates can be wrong — sales tax rules are complicated and a camera can misread a price tag. Always check the register.
The app is free, it never touches your money, and we are not responsible for purchase decisions you make. Use it as a helpful guide, not as a guarantee.
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("we", "us"), the publisher of the Just The Total mobile application and the justthetotal.com website (together, the "Service").
By installing or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf. If you are a parent or guardian and do not want your child using the Service, ask them to uninstall it.
Some countries set a higher minimum age for online services. If the law where you live requires you to be older than 13, that age applies to you instead.
The Service helps you keep a running total of items you are considering buying, applies an estimated local sales tax rate, and compares that total against a spending limit you set yourself.
The Service is a calculator. It is not:
Nothing in the Service is a recommendation about whether you should buy anything.
Totals and tax rates are estimates. The amount the Service shows may differ from what you are actually charged.
This can happen for reasons including, but not limited to:
Always verify prices and totals at the register. Do not rely on the Service for any decision where being wrong would matter. We do not warrant that any total, tax rate, or scanned price is accurate, complete, or current.
The Service is designed for the United States, where sales tax is added at checkout. It is not designed for countries using value-added tax or goods-and-services tax, where the displayed shelf price normally already includes tax. Using it in those countries will produce wrong totals.
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you are.
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes. We keep all other rights.
You may not: copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it except where the law expressly permits this; remove any notices; rent, sell, sublicense or redistribute it; use it to build a competing product; or use automated means to access, scrape, or overload it.
The items, prices, budgets and settings you enter are yours. They are stored on your device, not on our servers. We claim no ownership of them, and we cannot see them.
Because your data lives on your device, you are responsible for it. If you uninstall the app, lose your phone, or clear its data, we cannot recover anything for you. We do not hold a backup.
How the Service handles information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
The Service, including its name, logo, design, text, and software, is owned by us and protected by copyright, trade mark, and other laws. "Just The Total" and associated branding are our marks. These terms do not grant you any right to use them.
The Service relies on third parties, including Google Play for distribution, Android's system services for location and text recognition, and a third-party sales tax data provider. Their terms and privacy practices apply to their part of the experience, and we are not responsible for them.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We may release updates, and some updates may be required for the Service to keep working. We do not promise the Service will always be available or error-free.
We may modify these terms. If we make a material change we will update the date at the top and give notice in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the new terms.
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or use the Service unlawfully. Sections 4, 8, 12, 13, 14 and 16 survive termination.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any total, tax rate, or scanned price will be correct.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from or relating to your use of the Service — including any purchase decision made in reliance on a total the Service displayed.
Our total aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free app is zero, or (b) US $50.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these terms. This does not apply to the extent the law does not allow it, and it does not apply to consumers where local consumer law prohibits it.
Consumer protection law in many countries gives you rights that cannot be signed away. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.
In particular, nothing here excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
European Union, United Kingdom, and other consumer jurisdictions. If you use the Service as a consumer, you keep the mandatory rights and protections of the country where you live, including your right to bring proceedings in your local courts. The governing-law and venue terms below apply only to the extent local law permits. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
Australia. Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes those guarantees.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Subject to section 15, you and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in [COUNTY, STATE].
Before filing any claim, please contact us at support@justthetotal.com — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally.
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
The Service is controlled from the United States and is subject to United States export laws. You may not use it where doing so would be unlawful.
